Pandemic-Proof Teaching

No one knows what the coming school year will bring. Here are three things you can to prepare for anything that comes your way:

1) Create Instructional Videos. Replace synchronous direct instruction by recording short videos that explain new content and skills. If you’re in the classroom, your students can watch while you answer questions and support small groups; if they’re at home, students can watch asynchronously and bring you questions during live class time. In a hybrid setting, you can have the best of both worlds! Here’s our five-step guide.

2) Organize Your LMS. Your Learning Management System (LMS) should be where your students go to find everything they need to succeed: videos, notes, assignments, etc. It’s their digital home base — so make it welcoming! Indicate clearly how students should navigate the platform (pro tip: a video walkthrough can be extremely helpful here), and ask for feedback if they get confused. A well-organized LMS makes any classroom function like a well-oiled machine. Use our LMS tutorials for guidance.

3) Monitor Student Progress. Whether you’re in-person, remote, or hybrid, your students won’t all learn at the same pace. That’s natural — embrace it! Just make sure that you’ve built systems to track what each of your students has and has not (yet) learned… and that your students themselves know how to find their own progress! Our free online course explains several ways of doing this.

Not sure this will work? Read one teacher’s perspective on Modern Classrooms during COVID — and give it a try! If your experience is anything like ours, your students will thank you.
