If classrooms are the spaces where the magic happens in school communities, then classroom instruction acts as the operating system that makes these moments possible. After all, it provides a framework for all learning.
But if we want to upgrade that operating system to optimize impact and efficiency, it's more than installing an update - it means working alongside and supporting educators to build a groundswell of buy-in for new strategies, initiatives, and tools.
Like a lot of school leaders, Maureen Delgado saw her students in need of more personalized support. As a school made up of immigrants and refugees, a community comprising more than 40 languages, one-size-fits-all instruction wasn’t going to cut it. So they made a shift to personalized, student-centered learning, and Maureen provided the structure and guidance to make it workable for her educators.
In this session, Chicago Public Schools' principal Maureen Delgado and her assistant principal, Steve Laslo, will join the Modern Classrooms Project to discuss how they built buy-in for classroom innovation at their school, Clinton Dewitt Elementary.
