Core Value #2: Teachers Drive Impact - In the Classroom and Beyond
When Kareem and I first launched MCP, people told us that our direct-to-teacher approach was misguided. If we really wanted to make an impact, they said, we’d need to work with principals, superintendents, and policymakers instead.
We realize how important these leaders are, and feel both fortunate and proud to work closely with outstanding administrators across the country. But Kareem and I were teachers at heart, and we felt that the best way for us to inspire real, grassroots change was to share what we’d developed together with classroom teachers like us.
That’s the spirit at the heart of our second core value: Teachers drive impact - in the classroom and beyond.
Here’s how we see teachers creating impact:
In their classrooms.
This is where it all starts. Not only do teachers using our model feel more confident and capable, but their students benefit too: they report greater self-efficacy, stronger relationships with their teachers, and improved enjoyment of learning. Read more on our model’s classroom-level impacts.
Across their schools and districts.
All it takes is a single teacher to transform instruction in a school, a district, or a community. In fact, the majority of our 100+ school and district partnerships were sparked by teachers, who discovered our model and then worked with their administrators to empower colleagues community-wide. Throughout the country and world.
In our Facebook Group, over 10,000 educators share ideas, resources, and encouragement. In our Virtual Mentorship Program, our Expert Mentors work closely with colleagues around the world. And as Distinguished Modern Classroom Educators, over 300 educators convene regularly to discuss additional ways to grow our movement.
