Measuring Your Impact

As another school year comes to a close, it’s natural to wonder: “What have I accomplished this year?”

In answering this question, I hope the first thing you’ll do is give yourself credit: you’ve made it this far! This is an incredibly challenging time to be an educator, and your students have no doubt benefited tremendously from your commitment, your perseverance, and all of your daily hard work. Getting your students through this year is accomplishment enough.

If you’d like to go a little deeper, here are four other ways you can measure the impact you’ve made this year.

  1. Student Growth:

In Modern Classrooms, students become more independent, more confident, and more resilient learners. You can measure the impact you’ve made on your students using our Research Toolkit, which includes a ready-to-use end-of-year survey that you can give your students, and a pre-filled analysis sheet that will summarize their responses automatically.

  2. Materials Created:

Have you created videos, mastery checks, progress trackers, or other instructional materials that you can re-use next year? If so, congratulations - you’ve saved your future self a bunch of planning time! You’ll probably want to redo or revise some things, but every resource you use again next year is one resource less that you’ll need to create.

  3. Colleagues Inspired:

Did you share what you were doing with any of your colleagues this year? Or, did you convince any of them to explore our free online course? You may well have lit sparks of innovation that you don’t yet recognize. If you’re able, check in with those colleagues to see what they’ve learned - and whether you’ll be able to support each other in your continuing Modern Classroom journeys.

  4. Lessons Learned:

What will you do differently next year? If you can answer that question, then your struggles this past year have paid off. Now we at MCP are just excited to learn from you!

Whether you implemented our model fully or just tried bits and pieces, whether you helped your district launch a partnership or just experimented in your own room, whether you share your impact with us or just read this and move on - we are grateful for your efforts and eager to support you as best we can.
