Addressing Learner Variability

Perhaps the fundamental challenge of teaching is learner variability.

Think about it: if all your students were exactly the same, how easy would it be to teach?  You could just show up to class, give the day's lesson, and all of your students would learn the exact same thing.  If they struggled, the same fix would work for all of them.  And you'd only need to answer each question once.

Fortunately for our world, everyone isn't the same!  Yet while variety may be the spice of life, it sure makes teaching hard.  Meeting all the needs that exist diverse class of learners, day in and day out, is daunting to say the least.

Our blended, self-paced, mastery-based model offers a great starting point for educators to address this challenge.  Managing learner variability as effectively as possible, however, requires a deep understanding of what learner variability really is, what causes it, and how each of a student's individual learning needs can best be addressed.

That's why we are proud to partner with Digital Promise, a national leader in education innovation, to share with you the science behind - and best practices for addressing - learner variability.  Together, we've taken the research-based insights from their Learner Variability Project and explained how you can put them to use in your own Modern Classroom.  Our co-created resources include an exclusive new video, actionable strategies for addressing students' full sets of needs, and tips for getting the most out of Digital Promise's free Learner Variability Navigator.

As you strive to meet your students' needs, we hope these resources meet your needs too. Learn more in the Modern Classrooms Project free course.
